Grant Watkins och Andreas Sandström presenterar tillsammans utställningen timeslice på Galleri Pictura. De använder sig av video, fotografi, skulptur och installation för att ta rummet i anspråk till ett sammanhängande uttryck för deras kollaborativa arbete.
Watkins och Sandström har i utställningen undersökt rummets egenskaper för att sedan utnyttja dem i skapandet av något eget. Tid och ljus är drivande komponenter i timeslice och rummets föränderliga ljus kommer att samspela med verkens egna ljuskällor. I videoverket 30 days & 30 nights har de fångat ljuset från ateljéväggen under juni månad 2011 med hjälp av timelapse-teknik. Det inspelade ljuset förflyttas till galleriets vägg i denna 30 minuters videoprojektion.
Utställningen kan ses som ett experiment för att belysa något som vanligtvis är svårt att artikulera; hur vi tolkar tid och rum för att skapa perspektiv över miljöerna som människan förhåller sig till. Att skapa nya rum via fysiska och tekniska utforskningar för att utlösa en känslomässig reaktion hos betraktaren. Det är omstruktureringar av vissa platser, men också poetiska svar på rådande normer.
Konstnärerna arbetar tillsammans med att utforska begrepp som natur, atmosfär, tid och rum. De arbetar i olika medier för att skapa estetiska förskjutningar och utforska gränserna mellan det materiella och det icke- materiella. I Watkins och Sandströms estetiska värld förkroppsligas komplementära motsatser och nya begrepp formuleras. Materialiteten i deras arbete är dissonant och strävar ofta efter att konfrontera betraktaren med optiska effekter och pockande fysisk närvaro.
Andreas Sandström och Grant Watkins är baserade i Stockholm och har båda examen från Konstfack 2008 respektive 2009. Tidigare har de ställt ut tillsammans på Tegen2, Platform och Böfüms i Stockholm.

Grant Watkins and Andrew Sandstrom present their collaborative exhibition timeslice at Galleri Pictura. They utilize video, photography, sculpture and installation to claim the gallery space in order to form a coherent expression of their collaborative work.
In this exhibition Watkins and Sandström have explored the qualities of the room to incorporate them into their own work. Light and time are key components in timeslice, and the shifting light of the room will interact with the diverse light sources of the artworks. In the video 30 days & 30 nights, they have captured the light from the wall of their studio in June, 2011 using time-lapse technique. The recorded light is transposed to the gallery wall in this 30-minute video projection.
The exhibition can be seen as an experiment to shed light on something that is usually difficult to articulate, how we interpret space and time to create perspective on the environments that people relate to. Creating new spaces via physical and technical explorations to trigger an emotional response in the viewer. They are reconstructions of certain places, but also poetic responses to prevailing norms.
The artists work collaboratively to explore concepts such as nature, ambience, space, and time. They work in different mediums to create aesthetic displacements and to explore the boundaries between the real and the perceived. Complementary opposing forces are embodied in Watkins’ and Sandström’s aesthetic world and new concepts are formulated. Materiality in their work creates dissonance and often strives to confront the viewer with optical effects and insistent physical presence.
Andreas Sandström and Grant Watkins are based in Stockholm and have both graduated from Konstfack College of Arts in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Previously, there work has been shown at Tegen2, Platform and Böfüms in Stockholm.
